Testing and Certifications

PolyureStone panels offer excellent fire resistant properties. The panels are tested according to the ASTM E-84 ‘Standard Test method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials’. The purpose of this test is to determine the relative performance of the test material under standardized fire exposure. The most widely accepted classification system for flame spread characteristics is epitomized by the National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Code, NFPA 101. According to this classification system, in order to receive the highest rating a building material must achieve a Flame Spread Index rating of 25 or less and a Smoke Developed Index rating of 450 or less. The panels have received a Class A certification. The panels received a Flame Spread Index rating of 20, and a Smoke Developed Index rating of 400. A Class A certification corresponds to a Class I rating in other codes such as UBC and BOCA. Please review the Report for more detail.

ASTM E-84

‘Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials’

The panels offer significant fire resistant properties. We use a special polyurethane formulation that makes our products "self-extinguishing". This means that if a flame source is introduced, the panels will burn, but only at the location where the flame is applied. When the flame source is removed, the flame naturally and immediately goes out, making the panels “self-extinguishing”.

The panels have been tested according to the ASTM E-84 flame spread test and received a rating of 20, making the flame spread characteristics below the requirement for Class A certification according to classification system established by the National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Code, NFPA 101. The Smoke Developed Index is a second element of the E-84 test that measures the amount of light transmitted through the testing tunnel during the procedure. The panels have a Smoke Developed Index of 400 which means that it takes longer than the 10 minutes designated by the test criteria for the smoke dissipate in the test chamber. Please review the Report On Surface Burning Characteristics for more detail.

‘Standard Test Method for Windload Resistance of Rigid Poly Siding’

The Panels offer significant windload resistance properties. Through extensive testing it was established that our panels maintain an Average Pressure to Failure of 62 psf or 156 mph wind speed. Please review the Windload test report for more detail.
